Found some yeast in the freezer dated august 2017. It had been opened and half of it used. Tested it and it was still good. Baked two loaves and both baked of great.
Sooo... 3yo yeast kept frozen is most likely still good even if it's been opened.

I don't think mine is even as new as that. It's in the deep freeze and some of that I think is 2014 2015. I don't defrost it till I need it and then I use that up within 4 months.

Got some that's 2014 out this week end to make some bread. I think as long as it stays frozen it will be fine
Since I use some in the wash for my moonshine every month or so, I have a lot in the freezor

I tested some 2015 yeast I've kept in the freezer and it's gone. I have 5 packets of new yeast left still, so I guess it's going to be sourdough if I can't get my hands on more new yeast. I should start my Herman today. Thank God I have done this before and know how.

I'm surprised the yeast died. My old stuff is good and reading your post I feel blessed.
