Number 10! Ten consecutive holiday seasons we've been doing this!
Here's how it works: if you want to participate just say so in this thread. Names will be drawn and randomly matched by the Friday following Thanksgiving. The idea with that date is that'll give us enough time to decide on gifts for our matches, and enough time to get it delivered (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.) by Christmas, or at least within the Christmas season (being Catholic I consider that to be up to January 5). Tracking numbers are good, and don't cost extra last I checked assuming the gift is coming via a parcel. If and when a delay does happen it is always considerate to let the recipient know. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but we do have some members in the bunker who have not done this with us before.
I'll keep a tally in this thread at least once a week regarding who all is in.
As far as gifts themselves go: there's no need to spend an unreasonable amount of money, but if that's what you wish to do then go for it. If you prefer to make your gifts then you're in luck! Homemade gifts are welcome, and in my experience have always been well-received. Giving something you already have is also a thing; along with doing volunteer work/donating to charity on behalf of the one you're matched with. I did that bit myself a few years ago at the request of my match.
This gift exchange has always been a nice way to remind us that this forum is made up of real people who have lives. We're also coming fast on the times to be thankful for our blessings, and then to celebrate the coming of Jesus a little over 2000 years ago, and then hopefully the start of a better new year.
