For those who may or may not have heard service members were able to apply for an exemption to getting the covid vaccine (whether religious or medical).
As of a few days ago if those exemptions weren't submitted soldiers are now being flagged for refusal to get the vaccine, and recommended by at least their commanding officers for something known as "GOMAR" which is a written reprimand at the general officer's level (basically the CEO of your company just put on paper that you're a turd of an employee). This doesn't kick them off to the curb outright, but anyone who was planning to stick around by reenlisting won't be able to now. It's like getting put on the Corps' weight loss/fat burn program (BCP) with the same outcome in most circumstances.
The Corps already gave the boot to the equivalent of their entire music job field as far as numbers go. Not sure on the stats of the Navy or Air Force. Ironically the Navy is saying they want to retain their sailors.
I'll argue the whole Dept of Defense brought this on themselves when they didn't make it a mandatory thing for us to get from the get go. I was bracing myself for that all of last year and the year before then. I've never heard of any vaccine being optional for us; heck the truest thing my recruiter ever told me back in 2006 was that I'd get treated like a pincushion. I took advantage of it being an option at the time, and didn't resort to getting it until a positive incentive was put in place; which was we could go on tour if we got the vaccine, and I wanted a chance to see my folks again (which ended up being a moot effort for other reasons).
