Be mindful that there are multiple doom and gloom bogus conspiracy theories regarding that mission floating around. Many of which are claiming the asteroid is headed for earth along with some claiming the impactor mission is designed to make the asteroid hit Russia.
There isn't a BS flag big enough to cover this. If you see it, or someone tries to pass it off to you, ask them how much energy the impactor transmitted. Most of them don't know, nor have a clue how to figure it. Force = mass * acceleration (read velocity) The mass and speed have been provided already. As an analogy, on scale, it would be like a pipe smoker trying to blow a smoke ring in a Gale force wind.

i saw where there is a "plume" or "tail" of debris. I have not heard if the impact changed the orbit.

I don't believe it was intended to change the orbit, but rather just see if they could hit it. Now that they know they can, the payload (warhead) can be adjusted to change the trajectory or destroy it.

Now that they know they can, the payload (warhead) can be adjusted to change the trajectory or destroy it. That is correct. The target of the test was chosen because of its low threat level. However, folks with shoe size level IQ are still running amok with conspiracy theories. One of the more bizarre ones was that it was an attack on an ET ship lol.
