My former neighbor and avid hunter was on an archery hunt about 10 years ago. While tracking a deer through the mountains for a few hours he would occasionally hear something behind him. He would turn around and look thinking the big Buck had gotten behind him only to see nothing. As I mentioned this went on for hours. Finally turns around to see a 100+ lb mtn lion was hunting him now only several yards away!!! It was not legal, at the time to carry a firearm while bow hunting. However he kept a .357 in his pack....He has its head mounted on the wall. Sometimes better to be alive than legal!!

we were hunting raccoons along the river one night, no dogs, just finding them in trees with head lamps.
We would shoot them out of the tree and skin them throwing the carcass away so we didn't have to carry the weight.
Both of us felt like we were being watched/followed but we could never see any thing, not even eyes with the lights
The guy I was with knew if a crossing only about knee deep (but cold as ice) with a solid rock bottom so when we got there we crossed and hunkered down to wait.
When we heard something in the water we hit the lights
And there was a big cougar following us and eating the coon carcass's we were leaving.
We didn't do anything but scare him off, but after that we started throwing the carcass's in the water.

That feeling of being watched is one I suspect every woman knows well. I've been asleep and awakened solely because someone was watching me. It's amazing how feline eyes, even from one's domestic pet cats, can provide that sensation.

When I was in my 20's I awoke one night to find a cougar watching me intently with a hungry look in her eyes, and then.....
Oh, wait - this about actual cats.......

I was gonna but I knew SOMEONE would eventually jump on it. Way to go Marc. You guys would've died laughing today at our Christmas Party at the Sr. Center. Of course two thirds of us are fine looking widows. A health care company sends this young unattached fine looking stud to deliver us some complimentary desk calendars. We had a mock open auction to bring him home with us. The women at our table were handing him IOU's from our monthly checks running into next year. Never laughed so much in a long time. We each got a hug from him before he left. He was a good sport about it. Interesting stories about the cougars stalking people. I watched reenactments of this happening to hikers, hunters, even bicyclists riding trails in mountainous regions. Really scary.
