I don't know why I never did this before! I lucked into a big bag of good grapes, seedless red ones, so I looked up the directions for turning them into raisins. All I had to do was wash, pop them off the stem, dunk them in boiling water for 45 seconds, and dehydrate at 130 degrees (took mine about 30 hours) until they turned into raisins. The boiling water thing is called "checking." It does something to the skins of the grapes so moisture can pass through easily.
You should do this the next time you have a lot of grapes and want to save them. I thought I knew what raisins tasted like, but boy howdy was I ever wrong! Fresh raisins are a whole 'nother thing. Oh, and while the grapes were drying away in the dehydrator, my house smelled like the winery we visited in Napa Valley once a long time ago. Heavenly. The very next batch of raisins I make, I'm going to use them to make a raisin pie. Doesn't that sound delicious?

It sure sounds delicious and made my mouth water. I will have to give the dehydrating grapes a try...we get nice grapes down here

mmmmm squashed fly cake (thats what we called raisins in our house) my nan used to make this when we were kids and it was soooooo good
