I am considering buying a meat grinder. Keep in mind I've got a Kitchen Aid mixer that can take attachments. I've looked at the plastic $40.00 ones on Amazon and then there was one for $140.00 that's all metal. The reviews on the $40.00 are ok..but not impressive...and the reviews on the $140.00 are all good...my question is what meat grinder do you have? What is your experience with your grinder (times used, ease of cleaning) what was the cost of your grinder and lastly...knowing what you know now about the grinder you have, would you buy it again?

And if so, what type of casings do you use.. I was looking at what they sell at Cabela's.. natural, collagen and synthetic.. I'm assuming one of those last two is like what SlimJims are wrapped in and you just peel it back..

I just placed a bid on E-bay for a manual screw down base #22 grinder with 2 plates, 3 sausage stuffer attachments. If I win it, I'll add a 12" v belt pulley to it and make a base that will allow me to run it from my variable speed lathe, a 120v motor I've got on a home made tumbler...or the hand crank.

ncguy....I hope so...I've given thought to mounting it to a table and attaching it to one of my lathe's via a V-drive belt....low cost conversion to a power meat grinder.

I don't see why that would not work. A lot of the hand model grinders have pulley conversions. Take some pics when you get it hooked up to the v belt.

I will if it proves to be a doable/producing project.
