For over ten years I've been owning this type of dehydrators to make beef jerky. In fact, my first two were bought at garage sales for pennies and the third one was given to me.
Two years ago come December my oldies but goodies finally started breaking from exhaustion. I had one of the three left and decided to buy me a new one to have two on hand to use. Well, for Christmas my niece surprised me with another new one and two huge roasts to boot.
Days later my other old one gave out, back down to two. That's kewl. Once the prices of meat started skyrocketing I barely used them to make jerky.
Friday I splurged and bought a roast to make me some jerky. Brought it home, sliced it up and put it in the fridge to marinade overnight.
Sunday, loaded the trays with the meat and turned it on. About 30 minutes later the dehydrator quit working. Back down to one dehydrator.
Yesterday while I Wallyworld I again splurged and bought me another dehydrator. Today I'm finishing dehydrating the jerky and again the fairly new dehydrator quits working not long after I switched it on.
Opened the box with the new dehydrator, found the pamphlet and called the company to tell them they overheated in no time and quit working. Of course the factory warranty is only for a year so they couldn't both be replaced. However, in good faith as a loyal customer they will replace one.
My warning is for those users of these dehydrators to not leave them on and not be in the house to keep an eye on them. It so happens both times I was in my kitchen when they quit working. They could very well overheat to the extent where a fire could occur.
For now all I can do is keep using these dehydrators and hope they hold up until I can really splurge to buy the Excalibur Dehydrator just like CCMaMa has. Hers has been kicking for years now.
