For the admin: I was/am not really too sure where to put this. If you feel it's more appropriate in another category then by all means...
Last week when our local PD got involved with my fiancee's ex I did something that I never thought I'd envision myself doing.
Through my fiancee when she was still in contact with her ex I found out he got a shotgun (Mossberg 500) sometime last year, and was still in the process of getting a state pistol permit. So...
After the local PD were done questioning my fiancee about the incident I decided to disclose to them that her ex had the shotgun based on what I knew about him, and what he had done to her before we re-met (my fiancee and I both went through the same high school together for a couple years).
Some may/will ask "why?"
Believe me on any normal basis I'd never spill the beans on a citizen owning a firearm (especially with the current political climate). However: I deduced her ex to be an evil person even though his record was clean (thus he was able to apply for the permit and get the shotgun) based on how he treated her. I do not question what she says about him as she clearly still has the psychological scars.
With what I knew about him I was not sure how he would react to having two salty cops showing up at his door (one in particular looked very intimidating, and I don't use that word lightly, from what looked like getting pepper-sprayed in a training session), so I was concerned for the safety of those two LEOs.
I also was raised, and still live by the concept that evil is evil regardless of the person's background. I do know that the concept of what is evil vs not can be, and is extremely relative. However, given the surrounding circumstances I feel I did the right thing and have no regrets over disclosing to them that information.
