Yep, cats for the barn and in the house. I just hate how the cat has to bring the little bugger for you to see. My youngest house cat caught her first mouse at night and she was prancing on me and I woke up thank God to a dead mouse on my shoulder. It was all I could do not to give a good yodel but I carried it out on a flip flop and sent it sailing out into the yard. Did not call that cat anything nice for days.

Ours likes to bring her rodents right through the cat hatch, but she won't let me take 'em for our snake. If I make a grab for her, she promptly races back outside. She's been known to kill several mice each day, then take a few days off.
On another note, this week we noticed a great horned owl visiting. Talk about putting fear into critters that get into one's supplies! This gorgeous bird was busy with a critter just at the edge of the park, right across from our neighbor. We've had hawks visit our birdfeeders in winter, but the owl was an unexpected treat. I couldn't get my camera out in time; this bird was quicker than my students. ;D

just got a 9 week old kitty today that will be a mouser/ barn cat!!! :-)
I have mouse and rat traps stored for future use, but do not currently use them around my preps. We have the food inside mylar inside 5 gal buckets indoors...I inspect them not too frequently but at least every 3 months or so, and so far no signs of mice (no droppings around buckets or signs of gnawing/chewing)

I thought I caught one of my over fed barn cats digging around in my garden...I was fixing to sneak up and spray him with the waterhose...thinking he was gonna crap in my garden...EEEWWW. But he grabbed something and flipped it into the air, pounced on it, grabbed it and brought it to me...lovely little dead 10" copperhead fat as my forefinger. Jethro got the best scratchin and a full can of tuna all to himself for such a wonderful job well done!! Silly cat gets bit regular by pit vipers...he is crippled now because of a bad bite last year, but still loves to hunt them!
Jethro is crippled on his front left foot...EllieMae on her front right...I am wondering if killing copperheads is a sibbling kind of thing!!

Wow! this morning our 9 week old kitty had a big fat dead mouse to show us!
I didn't expect him to kill any rodents for at least another month or two!
Good kitty...

Great reminder cwi. Those in my home are a.o.k. An errant roach doesn't even stand a chance if I see it much less mice. Those supplies which are cached get checked regularly also.

I check my preps monthly and no problems. My shed is a different story however. I tried one of the new plastic traps that you set by pressing the rear. I didn't think it would work but sure enough I got a mouse my first night.
