Consider the possiblity that you must evacuate quickly, possibly a natural disater, your home is well stocked with food neatly in order on shelves by catagory. As nice as that is I have always said that having all your eggs in one basket is not good. I recently began taking clean empty cat litter buckets (larger ones) and filling with 3 day rations including minor toiletries, lighters food, both can and dry goods vapor sealed, then sealing the containers. My thought is in a quick grab & go I know I can grab as many as possible and still have everything for a few days. This will give me valable time doing other things. I still plan on stocking the home with shelves of food and use the buckets as back up. Just something to consider.

this is a great idea.
One of the first things I did when I got into prepping was make 72 hour kits for each family member.
nowadays I've far surpassed that goal and those little 72 hour kits seem almost laughable....
BUT....what they are good for is grab and go. They have items in them that don't need preparation (like pop top cans of ravioli, granola bars etc). They also have other little essentials like lighter/matches, hand sanitizer, small pocket knife, emergency contact info on laminated cards, pocket change and small bills...)
it's a really good point. The ability to grab something that is pre-planned and set aside without thinking will be invaluable in an emergency. By not thinking about what foodstuffs to bring you'll have more time to focus on what firearms to bring! and which important papers to grab etc...
