With all the potential for riots these days, I did a little search on surviving a riot. Here is a link to some good info. Hope it is ok to post this www.hyderabadpolice.gov.in/CrowdSafety/Surviving.htmHave any of you been in riots or mobs? How did you handle it? Love to hear from those with the real world experience....

Well for the moment, I'm keeping my behind out of any town/city of any size. If anything becomes of this, big cities is where it will mainly happen. Least ways that's how I see it.

The closest I've come is a mosh pit at a concert. That being said it's easy to get swept up by a crowd. I stayed on the edge and made sure I didn't get pushed in. One of the more valuable tricks I learned to get out of a crowd is to blade your body and basically swim through the people.

Come to Northern Ireland, the home of "Recreational Rioting".
Sometimes, if you are around tension long enough, you get a sense when it is time to get out of an area.
Bottom line, if the hairs on the back of you neck are saying "time to go" - listen to them !

We tended to get caught in anti-American riots, overseas. What we would do was shout as loud as the rioters, acting like they were, staying near the edge of the crowd, then high tail it off a side street, go a couple of blocks and make sure to be aware of where they were so we could head in the opposite direction. If there is general anarchy, the best thing is to get out of the city as fast as possible, if you can. Otherwise head for prearranged safe spots (for instance a hotel or friends residence, or apartment). Try to avoid areas where crowds naturally gather like metro stations, sports arenas, parks, major streets.
