I've never heard of wild field peas. Yesterday while at the feed store I noticed on the counter a section of small snack ziplocs labeled "wild peas". The check out clerk told me a customer brought them in to sell and that's all he knew about them. Their size is about one third the size of dried peas bought at the store to cook. Most are dark brown in color and some are a deep dark chocolate color. A bag was selling for a buck so I bought one to have seeds to plant. I'm still curious as to what area these were picked in as I've never seen anything resembling a pea plant growing wild in my area. I'll wait until next Spring to plant them and will let y'all know if they grew.

Yes I would be very interested to see what you end up with. I would make sure to plant them a good distance away from anything else to keep cross poulination to a minimum. Shoot i'd have to stick a few in a pot now and see if they come up....lol

We have Beach Peas in the coastal areas around here. Though Not in my area. Ground bean has a pod that looks just like a pea pod, but they would be more like 1/8th the size of domestic Pea. Sure hope they didn't sell you Vetch. Those are considered toxic.

Sure hope they didn't sell you Vetch. Those are considered toxic. Thanks for the warning. I just got off the phone with a worker at the feed store who had the scoop. He told me this gentleman is an old timer in our area and has been planting gardens for a long time and selling extra seeds at the feed store for many years including these tiny wild peas for human consumption. It appears I just happened to see them for the first time before they all got sold. Now I feel much better too.
