With the small game hunting season here, deer season around the corner. I need some hot water for coffee and soup when taking a break. I like both my Kelley Kettles Large and Small. When I heat them up with wood it creates alot of soot adding to the clean up. So I decided to try my can alcohol stove aka penny stove, aka pop can stove, I sat it up outside about 50 degrees today used cold water and used the smaller Kelley Kettle I had boiled water in 3 1/2 minutes used about 2 ounces and zero clean up.
Decided I would take it 1 step further, allowed everything to cool down this time I used Sterno took 9 minutes, that alcohol burns very hot very fast. Anyway I'll use this alot during the winter hiking, fishing, hunting and just plain screwing around outside. Those of you who have never used one might want to check them out. mine are both aluminum, stainless was back ordered alot and for along time when I bought these and the aluminum has held up well.

I need to get something like that. I do have a small pack weight gas burner. It uses that small can of mixed propanes gas. I works really good, but I would like to have one I can fire up with wood.

It's nice to have options, wood when it's allowed and fuel when wood is scarce. Places where open fires are not allowed, stoves could be an option.

I have a few stoves, however I use the can stoves quite a bit for small snacks. meals, I can make one quickly from cans found along the road and I keep 90% rubbing alocohol in my first aid kit which will work as a Denatured Alcohol substitute doesn't burn as hot but gets the job done.

I used to use rubbing alky in a 3lb coffee can with a roll of tp in my hunting blind. It did a good job of keeping it very cozy on cold mornings. I gotta get out and do something.... In other words, work at it... Jimmy
