Anyone else have an exacto knife in their small kits, like fishing kit?
They make about 30 different blades at hobby lobby, even a saw blade. Not going to cut down a tree but if you needed to saw through saw a small bone or such.
I also have a single edged razor blade wrapped in 3 yards of duct tape. I could gut and skin a deer with a single edged razor blade if I had to. (I know cause I tried it to see)

They would come in very handy for small projects.

I keep those $1 sectioned knives in several places. Bustable boxcutters are handy, but I've learned to exercise caution when using them, having broken chunks off the blade and not anticipated the flight path of the chunks. In other words, I've learned to wear glasses when I use these things, whether or not I need the glasses to actually see what I'm doing at the time.

You are right thats why I like my single edged razor blades.

Catch one in the eye would be a game changer for sure.

I can pretty much use my leathermen wave for lite duty work.

I haven't seen single-edged blades for sale in stores in a l-o-n-g time. Amazon's got 'em though.

I chipped a piece off a section. The piece landed oh so safely on my eyelid where I promptly wondered what the heck landed on me. Careful removal taught me to always protect my eyes.

Read more: survivalbunker.proboards.com/thread/8468/exacto?page=1&scrollTo=88103#ixzz390vqyI00Try catching the concussion from a .357 magnum about 4" away from your eye, that was a game changer. Of course if I had not caught sight of the sucker in my window reflection, and deflected his aim, it would have been through the back of my head, so I guess it turned out better than it could have. The dang bullet would more than likely done more damage to the eyeball then the concussion did. (although it did blow the thing out so maybe not) But with my eyeball hanging on my cheek I still disarmed and took that SOB down and sit on him until the police got there 8 minutes later to save me. Sorry! Sounds kind of gross. But I couldn't see it. I just know what they told me. But! If you ever need a great eye surgeon I will give you his name. Rebuilt this sucker and it still works better then the other undamaged one.

I pray none of us ever need that name. I've been very blessed to have an alert guardian angel when I needed one.
Here's something else that can "fly" that you maybe didn't expect. Again, I got nailed in the eye. Plastic bottle tops such as those for shampoo have a part that protrudes from the flip-cap into a small hole in the base part that screws onto the top of the bottle. Toilet bowl cleaner had the identical flip-cap arrangement. I opened, with some difficulty since it was stuck tightly, a flip-top on the toilet bowl cleaner and a drop of the liquid landed on my eyeball. I reflexively blinked, but too late. Fortunately the sink was handy, so I immediately performed an eyewash. All was/is well.

Options are a plus! Adding them to small kits could be your best friend.

Thanks! I will have to check out the ones at Hobby Lobby. I just bought a new one so it would be razor sharp and clean. I had been using a scalpel to open and drain an infected spot on a chickens foot and discovered the Exacto works much better! I was thinking it would be a good addition to a med kit.

I haven't seen single-edged blades for sale in stores in a l-o-n-g time. Amazon's got 'em though. Go to any department store which has a paint section and sells window scrapers with single edged blades to strip paint off the windows. Same thing, single edged heavy duty razor blades. You don't have to buy the window stripper, just buy the box of refill blades.
