WARNING!! The contents of this post could be construed as rambling.
car bags truck bags get home bags inch bags psk combat loads blah blah blah
I guess many of you remember that I have been trying to establish a tier system to my home, personal and vehicle prep bags (my generic term for any of the above listed).
So now I have ruck sacks frame packs shoulder bags duffel bags messenger bags fanny packs running out my ears! I research and read reviews and suggestions on how to use what molle pouch or A.L.I.C.E equipment and all looks good except for the fact that nothing freaking works the way I want it too. I like the idea of Tier items but holy crap did I end up with a ton of stuff that I am not entirely sure now how to organize.
So here I am with not enough stuff to go around to all the bags and too much stuff to carry in any one application...I hate paradox
First line is my EDC which ironically I cannot carry every day. Daily I have a pocket knife, multitool, tube of Carmex. Yup that is all I can honestly say I carry every day whether at home or abroad those three simple items are what I have. The other items I used to consider my EDC are in a Condor shoulder bag. While it usually goes with me in the vehicle and resides in my tool box at work I do not carry it in stores and such. Those items are first aid kit(basic)in a water proof box, extra knife, fire steel, compass, walkie talkie, 550 cord, sil-nylon tarp, Sawyer mini filter and bag, sharpening stone, micro LED lights(3), lighter, tinder, snare and fishing kit, extra cell phone battery, carabiner, 2 1911 magazines and one XDs magazine(varies with carry option)and ear buds that work with both the phone and the walkies.
Not a bad compact kit but what about the items IN my vehicle bags? 4 vehicles 4 bags. None have the exact same stuff in them which is one of my problems. Oh they may have say a water filter but it is a Katadyn hiker pro instead of the Sawyer mini. Do I really need 2 water filters at all times? how about multiple tarps or the 50 lighters laying around?
Hell I have a dedicated HIKING bag I have used exactly ONCE but because I still intend on hiking I keep it put together and self contained.
Do I need my bags to NOT look tactical? well all my higher quality stuff does. Even the hiking bag. Like many of us, budget plays a huge part in prepping and surplus items are normally cheap cheap cheap.
So I started a new project using an ALICE LBE harness and pistol belt as a base. I want this to be a grab and go for day hikes, trips to the property and hunting with only minor additions or alterations of the LBE assembly.
I thought of WOODYZ and his battle belt set up but his is more...I don't know, seems more combat oriented. I am looking to build something similar to my EDC bag with more capabilities.
So far (pics will come eventually)I have added a training butt pack (please save the jokes on that one :0 ) canteen, Blackhawk spec ops holster(review coming on that too) compass and knife. What I would like to do is add some type of small ruck that I could attach or detach as needed and would ride above the butt pack that would be large enough to put say extra clothes and food or seasonal items like thermals or rain coat/poncho with liner and a warm weather sleeping bag or the sleeping bag liner I use for my home built ECWSS, a tent or bivvy. I will be using some m16 mag pouches for ammo duty and a double mag pouch for my sidearm (whichever I happen to take). Maybe, with the right bag option I could strap on my sleep system...sorry just thinking as I type. I also want to be able to attach some of the items from this rig to my main pack and still be able to wear the LBE under it if needed. or maybe attach the LBE to the outside of my main pack.
Enough for now I have to work early and stay late again...
