I found 5 cases (24 each) of brand new, never took the plastic off Ball Wide Mouth Jars for $10.00
not per case for all 5
so now I am ready for spring to get here and the local Farmers Market to open at start selling
90% of my planting this year will be potatoes and I plan to can and root cellar store a bunch.
But I am starting an Asparagus bed, don't know why I have not already done so.
I will also have move/transplant my old strawberry bed. I have already started a new bed from runners from the old bed.
And I will add some blackberries to my two patches + the birds have started a new patch I didn't plan under a wren house.
and I am going to build a new green house, maybe two.
One I am going to dig out between two side by side rows of wood chips that were hauled in. Then I will fill in about 10 feet wide at the bottom where the two rows meet, with compost I have been making for several years. The sides will be about 7' tall the length about 18'. I will then cover this with 10 mil plastic sheeting I got from our greenhouse lawn guy. Stuff he was throwing away when he changes it out of his gigantic houses once each 3 years.
So I will plant in it early. Its in full sun most of the day. Once it warms up I will just roll the plastic off of it. Then in Oct I will put the plastic back over it and grow something until Dec.
If it works out it will become my new garden spot. I can mulch it right off of its walls and I can hot compost it in Dec March and April, I think it will work well.
An other idea I want to try this year is making a dome green house using PVC. I watched it made in a Youtube Video and I got the parts list it will be 10' round. I can stand in the center and plant most of the way around. A door open to south and north to let breeze through. It may get to hot in July and Aug but I should be able to grow in March, April, Oct, Nov and Dec.
Just some more proof of concept stuff I am getting back to now that my son needs less care/attention. + he needs to stay busy too.
