This is being done already in other countries and as experiments here. If this can be done on this scale, why not on a smaller “homestead” scale.
Maybe on a lake or pond? Maybe using a large stock tank structure like a concrete trench open at the top. The sun powers the pumps to circulate the water for the crops/fish food/fish + charges the batteries for other use and days when the sun is dim.
I tried to do hydro/aqua-ponics system inside a greenhouse just before my Son MC accident but I couldn’t get my PH stable. One lesson learned was that I was mistakenly trying to create the fish environment, without the fish. I was thinking I needed to establish the water and add the fish and that was wrong. But I have not returned to the “proof of concept” effort due to accidents/strokes/illnesses/etc. Life is hard on progress. There are 14 pictures here with text and an article.
