www.monolithic.org/videos/video-just-water-ceramic-drip-filteryoutu.be/MBXyAsM7ziEI have two of these I got a couple of years ago one I used to try them out, it worked pretty good but takes a while to filter 5 gallons, they do show pressurizing the bucket with a bike tire pump and speeding it up considerably, I have not tried that the other one I have never open the package yet, keep it in the RV supplies One the boat I have a lifestraw and one of those plastic bottles with the filter in the sipper on top, have not "tried drinking the lake water yet" but they are stored in case.

One thing I have found with all the filters I have tried...Larger particles will quickly stop the effective speed of the filter... We filter all of our water and when they have been working on the lines and sediment in the form of red clay etc... gets into the lines it will quickly coat the outside of a filter effectively rendering it useless... So a requirement now is being able to get at the filter and wash it off easily...

I've bought several of those from this source. Best deal around IMO. www.homespunenvironmental.com/Easy, Simple, Inexpensive, Effective, Accessible, Washable

We filter all of our water and when they have been working on the lines and sediment in the form of red clay etc... gets into the lines it will quickly coat the outside of a filter effectively rendering it useless... So a requirement now is being able to get at the filter and wash it off easily... Our water from the well is filtered before it gets into the pressure tank. Coming out of the well we don't have much to filter out, but we have it set up so we can back flush the filter as you do a pool filter. The water from the back flush goes into one of the rain barrels. The cistern water (if we ever had to use it) just uses a sump pump into a pressure tank, it too goes through the same type of filter first. The filters can also be removed and washed for reuse. I soak them in some ridIt then run pressured water back through them and the clean up fine. The well pickup is in a good gravel layer and we almost never have anything to filter out. Out of the pressure pump the water used for drinking and washing etc. (gray water uses) goes through an additional filter. It can't be back washed, but it can be removed and cleaned. All of our gray water goes into the catch barrel system and ends up in a cistern for reuse, only our black water goes into the septic systems.

the filters in the life straws and life bottles can be replaced easily and replacements have so far been easy to find.
