I am going to rat myself out, but its all been changed and its too funny to pass up telling
a friend needed a metal barrel to burn his trash in and I had one down in our bottom I used to sight in scopes on from the back porch, it being at a known range of 75 yards.
so we drove down there in the truck and dumped a few things out of it and, pushed it over to make sure no wasps had built a nest, then started dragging it over to the truck.
dragging it exposed something black just under the surface
being of a curious nature I kicked some more dirt around and discovered a 55 gallon plastic barrel lid
at which time I remembered there was a 55 gallon barrel under it buried up right
In it was a rifle a handgun some ammo for both, 50# of rice and beans, water filters, a gallon of water a small fishing kit, a small snare kit, a med first-aid kit....... well you get the picture.
I buried it like 4 years ago and I had forgotten it, a lot of good that would do me
the good thing was the barrel itself had some condensation on its sides and in the very bottom
but the individual sealed packages inside were all fine with the exception of some mildew on the leather holster for the handgun, which I have found to be an issue in other caches. So I have started to only cache nylon holsters.
the handgun was in a vacuum sealed bag disassembled with some transmission fluid, the plastic grips being in a separate bag with a gun cleaning kit. Put the parts in an old towel wiped them off, put it together, slapped and already loaded magazine in it and bang, bang, bang.
Now the rifle, was a little harder, it too was disassembled metal in a sealed bag with transmission fluid and wood stock etc in a different bag all in good shape, but it was harder to clean up, all I had for the bore was a wooden dowel rod (I am now putting bore snakes in the cleaning kits) and the trigger group and piston assembly were hard to get dry. I wanted to use only what I had in the cache. I have been adding a can of cleaning spray for the last couple of years in the bigger cleaning kits.
Anyway after a mag of shooting the rifle was dirty as heck but still firing fine, but I am thinking some would not so I need to figure out a solution to getting the finer working cleaned out with out compressed air.
Maybe I could pee on it then let it air dry, or blow water through a straw and then air through the straw to dry it.
I did try to vacuum seal a can of compressed air with mixed results, I am thinking if I just put the can in the cache and I have condensation how long before the can rusts through, I have had luck putting thing in plastic bags with some rice for moisture control in the bag, but you can't vacuum seal rice it pokes holes in the bag.
Well have a few things to work out
one of which is my memory, and how do I maintain OPSEC and leave a "list" of caches for someone to use or for me evidently. And how many caches do I have out there that I don't remember are there?
Getting old sucks
