Sorry your not getting any help. I'm not much on beans and rice, but like beans or rice. Pinto beans in a slow cooker all day with about 4 smoked pigs feet and a big pan or cornbread sounds like heaven. I am just going to have to do it today. I am going to go soak the beans now.

Put the beans etc but not the rice.... in your cooker on low and leave that pot at home anything from 8-12 hours is good..... Soak your beans over night but not really needed if left all day to cook. Cook the rice when you get home and you are good to go.... I have ate many a meal from a slow cooker it does a great job on beans and meats of all types....Rice is a fast cook and really should be done separate..... if you do not minded it being mushy then by all means just added it with the rest.......

This sounds like a job for Geron, but he is probably out working on the root cellar?

I think Sr Derrin hit the nail on the head. Slow Cooker Rice is an oxymoron. Big Soggy Mess. RND the root cellar's on hold till I can get some help. Just not hip on haulin' block, mixin' mortar, keepin' mortar board loaded, layin' and levelin' block all by my self. Just don't think I'd do a satisfactory job workin' with me, myself and I. Edited again. I've used the "Rice Cookers" and they do a decent job of cookin' rice. Takes 15-20 minutes and you don't have to watch it to keep it from scorching. Shuts off automatically when the rice is "done." $15 at Target

I buy Zatarain's boxed meals and cook them in a rice cooker if I'm too busy to keep stirring the pot. My fav is Red Beans and Rice and the box does include the seasonings. I dice some smoked sausage and throw it all in the pot at the same time. Takes about 30-40 mins. to cook. One box can feed 3-4 people depending on your serving sizes. I use 1/2 less cup of water than the recipe calls far. Can't get simpler than that for a more complete filling meal.
