I want to start buying rechargeable AA&AAA batteries for different equipment which use them. The packaging does have expiration dates printed on it. Sooo...... Do they need to be charged once you buy them? Once they drain and need recharging, approximately how many times do I get to recharge them? Is there a time length if they're left uncharged, that they won't charge? Input on those you've used and given you great service by lasting longer in between charges. Any other info I may not have thought of asking.

Assuming non lithium, run whatever charge they have completely out, charge fully, and repeat. After that they should be good to store. Lithium susposedly doesn't need that, but it would be a good idea to run them dry then charge.

linkYou'll most likely be interested only in the NiMH batteries but. . . there's info on the other types as well.

i've been buying energizer rechargeables since 2009..in which im thinking, that their all nimh..my 1st 2 ,are rechargeable D batteries..i also bought 1 battery charger and 1 battery tester,to check them.this way i know if they need recharging or not.i still have the 2 D batteries.that makes them 8 years old.and they're still good as new.
here's why i think ,that their still good.i use the flashlight their in,at least once or twice a day.untill thay've run down.that's approximately 2 weeks.then they go directly into the charger.. only draw back on that..is,i was without a flashlight untill the next day..then we got 2 battery operated lanterns.each one use's 2 D batteries.so i now rotate them, where i have my flashlight to use no matter what..pluss the battries gets used.and recharged,as needed..
Is there a time length if they're left uncharged, that they won't charge? yes there is a length of time..but i dont know what the length of time is.in other words, yes they will go bad after sitting up to long..thats why i only buy what i need in batteries..this way i can rotate them out.this way they not only get used, but they get recharged as well..i love knowing that im pputting good, and recharged battries into my flashlight,or what ever..

CL I now use Duracell batteries, you can find them at Walmart or other stores, I find that Walmart has the best price. I would buy the set of 4 AA cells with the charger and some spares; a pack of 4 is less than $10 dollars, or at least they were the last time I bought them. Here are the specs:
Specifications: Come pre-charged and work in any NiMH charger Long-life Ion Core packs power in every battery Duralock Power Preserveā¢ Technology holds a charge for up to one year in storage Duracell rechargeable batteries are guaranteed to last five years* Recharge up to 400x
I have tried most of the other brands including Energizer brand, my favorite for many years but they leak acid when they go bad. Same as other brands. I use them for flashlights, ham radio walkie talkies, etc. Note: I would not use them for smoke or carbon monoxide alarms or use any other brands for that matter, I would rather non rechargeable.
