I've got bout 7 gallons a kerosene what been stored in plastic jugs in the shop. It be a bit stinky (oxidized) so momma an I was sittin out on the deck enjoyin the night air. I grabbed a jug an filled one a my goodwill lamps with it an fired it up. Still works just fine. Smells a bit but still burns fine. So, bein stored this way wasn't the best, would have been better in well sealed metal cans, but still usable. Just a bit a info yall might find usefull.

My kerosene supplier told me that kerosene/diesel is basically "shelf stable" and does not deteriorate like gasoline. I have some that's 3-4 year old that seem to burn alright in my kerosene heater. I don't know but I've been told.

You can buy it at farm supply stores, Tractor Supply and all the Big Box building supply places but they tend to be seasonal with it around here. Just shop the price, it's petrol so it goes up and down like gasoline.

Wow, that's great. Where would be good places to buy kerosene or is it all a general price ? Round here we can buy it outa a pump just like diesel, I thin it was bout 4.37 a gallon when I wen't buy the other day. If ya get it in gallon jugs it can be 14.00 a gallon! Now, there be different kinds, stuff from the pump just be stinky kerosene, they do make some what is odorless what the folk with a kerosene heater use. Personally, fer what we do, we buy it outa the pump. I would store it in metal containers ifin yer planin on long term storage. A idear popped in my head last night, why couldn't a feller store it in gallon paint cans? Ya can get em perty cheap.

Any paint and body shop will have loads of 5 gallon metal cans that they buy their lacquer thinner in. You more than likely be able to get as many as you want for free if you let them know not to throw them away.

We have a distributor here that pumps road, off road diesel and kerosene. The place looks like it dates back to the 20's - 30's . . . real homey.

Everyone should have some kerosene lamps and some kerosene on hand, don't forget extra wicks ;D I have lamps, wicks, and extra parts...and enough oil to last for a while...but I will not be using kerosene!! That chit is way to expensive!! When winter gets here, it will actuallly go down in price and 1 local station will carry it for about $5 a gallon. At that point, the kerosene fund will be tapped and enough will be purchased at once to run the kerosene heaters at both houses if need be. But then, wood heat makes those heaters almost not needed...almost. But I will wait until winter to get it or not have it. We only have room at each house ot store so much without drawing attention...we have some left from last year as we had a very mild winter...but at $47 for 5 gallons...I'll pass for now.
