I acquired a rather nice set of assorted molly bags/packs and a 3 day backpack with camel bladder and there was a small day pack with camel bladder. I have not used these before (canteens usually) and I see issues with cleaning them to some extent. I have already done some research online and it looks like most toss them in freezer and just refill each trip with regular daily use in most cases...
I can see that working fine for daily usage but what about an extended stay in the woods... Do any of you have experience with them?

I used one on my three day (fail) hike in the Ouachitas. It worked great. Had the mouth piece readily available. It's kind of a pain to remove/fill/replace but not so bad when you have water readily available on a long hike. Wouldn't be without them. Keep them in my packs in each vehicle. (Keep the whole pack wrapped in a wool blanket in the winter time and only about half full) PS. The hard part is finding a camel in Oklahoma to cut the bladder from. I know where they are in Texas but too long of a drive. Waggoner Ranch out by Wichita Falls. They filmed a movie there with camels and after they finished left the camels (and other animals) on the ranch. Freaked me out when I looked out in the pasture and saw CAMELS. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waggoner_Ranch Second largest ranch in Texas (after King). Half the size of Rhode Island. I love Texas.

On summer fishing trips on my local creeks I always use mine. I fill mine up as far as possible with ice and then water and put it in the fridge for about an hour before I head out. On an August day in mid MO, that extra bit of cool on my back is nice and the water stays cold too. At the end of the trip I drain it and lay out the bladder propped open so it dries out before I dare store it. I can also squeeze an MRE entree in the box with the ration heater since they are so thin for a backup meal JIC.

Camel bladders??? Seriously? And what do you do with the rest of the camel? Any recipes for camel jerky? Pot roast? Is it okay to give the dog the bones? Does the water taste like camel urine? Do you have to tie a knot in the urethra? Do you order your camel from Amazon, and does it qualify for free two day shipping?

Do you have to tie a knot in the urethra? Do you order your camel from Amazon, and does it qualify for free two day shipping? I usually donate the rest of the camel to the local CAIR affiliation after frying with bacon grease. They seem to like a taste of home Jerky, I suspect would be extra chewy made from a camel have not tried that as yet I will keep that in mind for next time... All bones unless cooked are ok for dogs to gnaw on... Camel urine? I have never tried it so I am unable to answer that question due to a lack of qualifications in that particular area.... as to a knot I would suggest a simple one way stop valve instead... Amazon does not carry any livestock despite many request by CAIR and affiliates for goats and sheep.. something about stopping sex rings not sure what that is all about... No free shipping - at minimum you have to donate the fertilizer to a local farmer from the shipping containers

Probably not. But you should hear her when she yawns. Scare a naked man off a cliff into a pile of cactus.

How do you know about that? I thought I "took care of" all the witnesses.

Back to camel bladders
Put only the water you want to drink in the bladder and it will be fine long term
carry a gallon baggie or another separate bladder to collect water in, then boil it before adding it to your good water

The Cactus must have broken his fall. The better question is what was he doing naked in the desert next to a cliff? Why, looking for a camel bladder. Isn't that what this post was about. You can't blame the guy for being naked, or near a cliff, and you can't blame the cactus for growing in the desert at the bottom of a cliff. Some things just are. The 'Chewy' yawn is terrifying though. The things people do for a camel bladder.
