Went to my favorite honey-hole looking for Thomas Longbeard this morning. Got lucky and he was making a racket about 50 yds from my position. About 6:10 am, he followed the two hens I let pass right by my position. When I saw his fan, got ready and let him have it when he reached the kill box. Went down like a brick after one shot from my Rem 870 launching 1&7/8 oz of #5's into his cranium. It was personally the fastest spring gobbler hunt I have ever had. By 630 I was back at the car packing him in.
He was 22 lbs, 9" beard, 1" spurs. Not a bad way to spend the morning!

Awesome! Good bird, I some how doubt he will make it until turkey day. I have not been turkey hunting in years....

Good job. Turkey hunting is normally a waiting and skill game.

Outstanding!
Our season here is March 20 to May 5 with a 3 gobbler limit, we have quite a few
I know right where a flock is behind us and there has been some "visiting" the retreat
But I am not hunting them this year at all
yotes killed off a batch of young birds 2 years ago so I am letting them multiply un-bothered
Yes we eliminated the yotes

Speaking yotes, I went out again this morning to try my luck. Dont know if it was a shift in the weather or what but, the gobblers were shut down this morning. Didnt hear a peep. Anyway, about 830 I had a yote try to sneak in on my decoys and the way he approached led him to within about 15 yards of me. I tried to draw down on him but he winded me just before I could get my gun up and off he went. Wish I could have busted that booger, would save me a bunch of young turkey poults this summer.
Well, I did see a couple turkeys but none offering a shot or they were hens. Ticks are horrible this year too!
