Found my first two guinea eggs just now.
I new it was about time, they are 17 or 18 weeks now and if they were going to lay this year they were going to start soon.
Of the 7 I have left I have 2 males, each male is covering 2 hens.
Yeah, you can add, odd girl out. In everything. She eats after they are through, she drinks when they leave the water, she comes out and goes into the run after them.
I suspect the other hens are already laying somewhere 2 to a nest and wouldn't let her lay in them so she laid in the coop. I made a nest box inside, so we will see.
It could be they just started and just laid in the coop because they didn't know exactly what they were doing. I will just have to watch them and see if I can find a nest.
They will lay until they have between 30 and 40 eggs to a nest then the hens will take turns setting on it. Hatch is 28 days after they start to set.
So in about 3 weeks I should come up missing a couple of hens at night, maybe even a rooster who will be on guard.
If I can find the nests I will wait until they are about to sit then leave them half and incubate the others. I wonder if I can sex the eggs like I can quail eggs?
I sure don't need that many guinea's if either of us hatch any but I can probably find homes for them.
If not I guess I could raise them to about 12 weeks and butcher them. They have better flavor than chicken.
I'll post a picture in a bit.

Just caught two big dogs after my Guinea's and chickens
I think they had heart attacks from running in the heat, they just fell over all of a sudden
I like dogs fine, but don't chase my chickens

Well don't that beat all. Glad your guineas have started laying for you. Can't have no dogs messin' with them though.

Good eggs. Bad dogs. Heat for running dogs is terrible this year. It appears you're missing a digit in that picture. I know, you only wear that prosthetic finger I made you on formal occasions. And since you don't do 'dining ins' anymore well I guess it's just sawdust. Lol. By the way if those dogs were running in the heat I suppose you can still hurl lead injections at a moving target

Yeah I can still hurl lead at a moving target and sometimes I can even hit it (especially if I use a shotgun)
We got a dog rule in this complex. If you want a dog keep it in the house, in a pen or in a fenced yard
These dogs were in my fenced yard running my birds and I didn't feel nothin' but recoil.

Well I found the Guinea nest tonight. At least one.
Just like I thought. I let them out the last two mornings a little late (sort of pushing the urge you see) and watched where they went.
Both mornings two went into some high weeds (on the neighbors property) while the rest stood around across the road and guarded them.
So after I locked them in for the night I went over there and sure enough I found a nest full of eggs
I don't know how many, I didn't bother it yet
but I got the first eggs on the 30th so say four days, so that would be 8 eggs and there are more than that so some others are in on it too
tomorrow I will go and ask my neighbor what she wants me to do about it
The idiots are like 30 feet from the pen where she puts her little yap dogs
I don't think they will sit good with the dogs so close
just have to see what happens, not like I need more but I don't want them to get the wrong idea their first time

Found another nest had a camera with me this time 10 eggs in this one and I know two have been laying 5 days now so that sounds right I went to the other nest this AM to see about counting them to get some idea but a hen was on it at the time, its got more eggs in it, but there are only 2 other hens so they must have started laying earlier
