What I Said When My White Friend Asked for My Black Opinion on White Privilege www.onbeing.org/blog/lori-lakin-hutcherson-what-i-said-when-my-white-friend-asked-for-my-black-opinion-on-white-privilege/8830read the examples given then my comment see I "still" don't get it. Replace the "black" person in these examples with a Native American, Jew, "poor white trash", etc.,etc. what's the difference? or reverse it. How about a Harvard graduate working as a waitress or dock worker because there are not any other jobs available right now. Do you think they don't get ridiculed and harassed because they are taking a job away from a non-graduate who needs a job. So are all of the Native American, Jewish Harvard Graduates also victims of this so called white privilege? Or maybe I can't understand it because I am mostly Native American and not white so I don't understand? OH! I guess that must have been backward huh!!! So! I don't get it. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

Is there racism? Yes there is.
Is there discrimination based on race? Yes there is.
How is the very term "white privilege" not also a racist remark?
I agree with Morgan Freeman, "the best way to end racism today is to “stop talking about it.”
What if the headline said, "a man killed a policeman today", "a man robbed 3 men", a Vietnamese store owner was killed by two black assailants today"
The police and the snitches need the description of the assailants, not the public, using race to promote news coverage only leads to additional race relation issues.
I didn't want to know if the guy who was going to cover my back ever sold crack, I wanted to know if he could shoot straight.
I don't know if Dr. Ben Carson came from a poor underprivileged family or not, but he proves a black person can be a brain surgeon. At the same time we can't all expect to be a brain surgeon, the world needs brake repairmen just as bad as it needs brain surgeons. Stop counting how many dime bags the guy can get for his $70 on your toes and go do something constructive.
Think that was racist? What, you never seen a Russian crack dealer? Only in your mind was that crack dealer black. That made it racist.

By the same token, I really really do NOT want to know that a TV game show contestant is a homosexual. Why folks like that have to find a way to interject their genital activities into every conversation is annoying, but that certainly seems to be a trend nowadays in the entertainment media. It's sort of like someone I know who is a vegetarian, and he never lets the opportunity pass to mention it to every person he possibly can. I feel like "Really, just give it a rest. Nobody cares, so STHU about it, willya?"

I could go on and on in this thread. Growing up in Mississippi in the 50s and 60s and working in the field in so many different cultural backgrounds neighborhoods during the late 70s thru last year gives me insights most will never know. Most LEOS are able to come from where I speak.
There will never be total racial peace in this country, ever. The thought process is no different than the Muslim thought process. My way or the highway. Not saying it's correct, wrong or whatever. Just saying doesn't matter what peace doves are offered, it won't matter.
Trying to figure out what racism is, is not a good use of time. Trust me, it smacks me in the face ever time I turn on the tube or go to the mall, Walmart where ever.
Won't debate this one. Agree or disagree makes no difference to me. This is just my experience and nothing else. Add a couple of bucks and get yourself a large coffee somewhere...
Like TW. I love this bunch and will stand side by side with you against anything.

I take people one by one, not in big groups or categories. A big black woman turns to me in the department store and grins and says "Oh yeah, get that one, girlfriend, it's gonna look sweeeeet on you!" and I know I like her no matter what color she is. Another black woman, a young one with a scowl on her face, shoves past me rudely to get into the restroom and I know I wouldn't like her until she's had an attitude change. It's not about the skin, it's about what's within. If Jesus loves us all unconditionally enough to die for each and every one of us, who am I to set different standards based on our skin colors? That is not my right, and I know if I have that attitude and let it rule my life, there's going to come a time when I'm going to have to answer to Him for it. I do not want to have to do that.

My Mother went into a TB Hospital when I was in Junior High School. At that time we had two black families and five Mexican families with kids in school and they all lived in one area across the tracks. Just how it was. One Mexican Family had sons the same age as my Brother and me and we had them out to the farm and spent several nights at their house.
My Step Father hired this wonderful and yes big and elderly black woman to help out
She was there to wake us up and get us on the school bus and she was there to fix supper, makes sure we all got our bath and went to bed
She was great and I loved her like an Aunt
Years after I would take her fish I had caught or game I knew she liked. Her Son (older than me) hated us white boys getting her attention/affection while he did nothing but live off her. But she had him on a tight string til she died and he ended up in jail.
I admit I cried at her funeral, she was a great lady
I too try and like everyone as individuals, even before I went into the USMC where we were all green.
That and being part Native American and having some experiences there just confuses me about people I meet who hate me when they don't even know me. I just can't wrap my mind around why it is how it is, when it seemed so easy when I was a kid or in the USMC.
One of my best friends in boot camp was from Kansas City and he hated blacks without even knowing them so I am sure it was how and where you were raised or some experience you had but I wish it wasn't so
