As most of you know I am waiting to have my water tested by the EPA, they will probably be out here in about 3 weeks to test it, in the mean time I am using bottled water and getting water from work. I just thought this might help someone, not saying this will work for every family but this is how we are getting through this.
1. As soon as I got off the phone with the EPA guy the first time and he told me that the people down the road were on bottled water, I decided to do the same. I left work and bought 5 gallons of water and 5 cases of bottled water. I have about 50 gallons of water stored at home but since this is water from the well we are not touching it until I know one way or the other.
2. I have 3 dishpans I use daily, one for washing dishes and one for rinsing and one goes under the camp shower.
When washing dishes I only put about 2 inches of water in it, and the same for rinsing, but I do not throw out the rinse water I save it to do the washing the next time and the start with clean rinse water.
3. I save the gallon jugs, 2 liter bottles and anything else that will hold water, and take to work every morning and refill from there, since I work 6 days a week we really haven't gotten low on water. I fill the camp shower every nite and put the empty jugs in the car to refill the next day.
4. We tried hanging the camp shower in the shower in the bathroom but it was just felt to crowded and clumsy in there so I had hubby move it to the garage. We pull down the door and hang the camp shower from the garage door, put a dish pan under the shower to catch most of the water then that is what we wash feet in. The garage floor has a slight slope on it so the water drains out under the door.
Even when we all take a shower, there is still about a gallon left in the bag so we are bathing 3 people with about 4 gallons of water. I think this is pretty good since this includes washing hair and shaving.
5. I keep a bottle of water in the bathroom for brushing teeth, hand washing and washing my face in the morning. Thank goodness we can at least use this water for flushing. I have a bottle of hand sanitizer in there also, I prefer washing hands with soap and water, but this will do for now.
6. My daughter has her own water bottle everyday with her name on it and she is getting better about being more conservative with the water she is more careful not to spill it (She is 4 so some of this has been a challenge with her.)
Any way, this is how we are getting through this, I'm sure I have forgotten something.
Even in all of this I am still greatful that we are not going through what some people are enduring with the storms and heat wave.
At least we do have power.
