Well I ordered an M1 back in May and it arrived today. O boy is it a good one, CMP was out of what they call 'rack grade and service grade' so I ordered a 'special' grade. It's suppose to come with a new commercial stock, a new barrel and all metal reblued. When I opened it I had almost new GI ISSUE M1. The stock was GI with the Springfield cartutuce with the crossed cannons, the barrel was like new and the receiver was a six digital August '42 build and the barrel was '46. I'm heading out to my brothers tomorrow to try it out.
Some years ago I had started getting some for my son and GS's, I knew they couldn't afford them back then. Well after giving them their uns I got withdrawal systems and just had to have one too.
I'm going to try loading up pixs but not sure it will work.

That sounds great. Hope you can upload pictures. Of course nothing with crossed cannons is more valuable and should be cherished. Lol

Every time I go to CMP site to order it says Out! Would really like a nice one. I bought a tanker model years ago in the 80's but had op-rod issues. Enjoy it.

If you can afford it, order a 'special' grade. They are $730. And would be better that nothing, and then maybe you could find a G.I. stock later on to 'upgrade it. They are great to take to the range and shoot. Bill

Great score! They are soooo smooth to shoot. It's the only 3006 I could shoot 100 rds through and be good to go. I loved mine.

Well just the other day a gentleman from the Garand forums burst my bubble, lol. I didn't get a special grade, it's a service grade. Seems the special grades are thousand dollars or so, and do come with a NEW stock with the CMP cartouches. So with my getting a service grade, it truly is an old like new Grand. I like the fact that it has an 'original' type stock for the historical factor. Some of the comments from the forum is that a lot of the rifles coming out now are really nice. I'm heading out Tuesday morning to put some lead down range to get really for the match this next Saturday.

Sometimes they will change out a good receiver with a good stock just by putting the two together
But when they do so they do not sight it in, they only make sure it cycles
sometimes you will need to remove/loosen the screws holding the stock to the receiver and find where the bedding needs added or removed
it takes some range work but its worth the effort on a good rifle.

I find the Garand to be very pleasurable as a medium - caliber shooter. Only semi-auto rifle I like better is my penpal's Stgw 57 in 7.5 Swiss. You got yours for a little less than what I bought mine for, but it's definitely getting easier said than done to find and buy one for less than 1k. Happy shooting!
