*edit- I meant to post this before, I found the Renedevous Dry Rub that I use in this video at my local Wal-Mart store in the spice section.

Good video BJ. Have you considered just getting some 55 gallon drums to make a smoker with?

Good video BJ. Have you considered just getting some 55 gallon drums to make a smoker with? I really appreciate the nod cwi! I have thought of that and I already have a couple drums out back that I could do something with. But with it only being me I really never do enough to warrant the amount of wood and charcoal for something that large. I have a smoker box that I bought at a yard sale that was brand new (guys wife decided they would be vegans right after he bought it!) I never liked it because it just wont hold heat like it should. I am starting to get a little fired up about a project I want to start. I would like to build a proper smokehouse but I want it to be a muti-purpose deal. What I want this smokehouse to do is- 1. Cold smoke and preserve foods via a remote fire box. 2. Hot smoke meats, much like the ribs in the video. It will have a fire pit inside the main house too. 3. Have the smokehouse setup so that it will accommodate hides so I can smoke Buckskins and pelts in the tanning process. This is also cold smoke. 4. Although I do not currently dehydrate foods I think it would be very easy to do with this setup. A small electric heating element would handle that job. I'm wanting this to be a round shaped mini silo type deal made out of Adobe Blocks that I make and it will have a Slate Shingled roof. I have located a pretty decent Shale deposit close to the house so I can make the shingles myself too.

If you use the shale, be sure to torch it before doing so and get it above 1,700 degrees F. Sometimes that shale can soak up chemical spills, which you don't find out about until it gets heated up in an application such as yours. Bake them good before use.

I think that lets that idea out. I have no way to accurately or easily do that. Maybe I will go with a clay tile roof instead. I was trying to do something where I can make or procure all the materials myself just to see if I could and to learn. Oh well Pretty sad world we live in when you can't even use dirt and rock from the earth to construct a simple structure I think I just need a cold beer and a rib sandwich!

Glad you reminded me to watch this one. Great vid and mouthwatering looking ribs. You're the man! Thanks a million Cajunlady for the reply! Thrilled you enjoyed it. It really does mean alot to get those responses to a video. There is quite a bit more goes into that than just copy/pasting links found around the internet. That and the fact that you are kinda putting yourself out there Ya know. Thanks Again
