For the past few months I've visited a restaurant which serves tomato basil soup with slices of Parmisan cheese. I wasn't a fan of neither but am slowly wanting to add it to my likes. I have bought Campbell's canned tomato soup which leaves a lot to be desired. I went back through the recipes and didn't find one. I'm sure many of you have your favorite recipes and would appreciate y'all sharing them with me so I can thoroughly enjoy eating something not out of a can and not copied from online.

Not being a fan of a precise recipe, let's just say that I'd start with tomatoes in a blender. If they've already been canned, I might strain out the seeds, but personally I don't care if the seeds are present. If the tomatoes are raw, I'd toss 'em in the blender, then slow-cook them until they were really mushy. I would then head to my garden and pick a few herbs, e.g. thyme, basil, parsley... whatever floats your particular boat... shred those, and continue the slow cooking. For canned tomatoes, I'd slow-cook with the herbs until everything is mushy. I would pour this into a bowl and add sufficient heavy cream; sufficient means to my liking, which may differ from yours. That's it.
I've known folks who just added milk or who didn't run the tomatoes through a blender. That's fine too, just not my preference.
