Have to ask, How many Hams on this forum? I'm 2W0HMF + DA6HMF. I'm living in Germany for the time being so im a little restricted on what bands I can use = 80/15/10m. All the best. John

I'm not currently, but I hope to get my license sometime in the next couple of months. I've been looking into it for some time, but have had so much else going on as well as not be able to afford a radio setup. I've got my eye on some nice looking intermediate setups, just have to start saving.

Nice one more the merrier! for what its worth, id save for the package you set your heart on! wish someone would of told me that! I would of saved a few hundred £. Still, if your in a big built up area? you can get very cheap VHF/UHF Duel band hand helds, you would get good use out of it! even if your not in a built up area and in the countryside, you may have high ground to transmit from! a must for a go bag

I've got my eye on a couple of mobile setups. One from Icom and the other is a Kenwood. Eventually I would like to get an old 40's or 50's set to play with. I always had fun working with the older radios when I was in the army. There is an old shut down electronics store next door to my house. When I say old I mean you can see vacuum tubes still sitting on the shelf. Would love to get in there and look around. Going to try and track down the owner and see what the deal is. Place has been closed probably 20 years. Anyway, the main reason I want a newer setup for now is I noticed that they have digital capabilities. Figure that can come in handy. Anyway, time to head to church. Look forward to talking with you more. Maybe meet you on the airwaves before long.

Haven't looked at the Yaesu's yet. Figured I might want to get my license before I start drooling to much. Talked to a guy at church last night and found out he was looking at getting licensed as well. Said he may also be able to get me a handheld to use. So we plan on studying and going up to take the test together.

The Yaesu 857 is a great radio for the price. So many features and so much capability in a small package.

Hay karatediver, do you work Germany much? if so, what bands? DA6HMF / 2W0HMF 73 I have not worked into Europe yet mainly because I don't stay up late enough due to work and family obligations. I generally work HF on 20 and 40 meters.

I am gearing up to get my license. I use a small mobile for camp. I have always had a CB but I really need to expand my comms.
