It's a freak lol but how nature works, always trying different ways and designs for the best survival rates. In this case i'd say it's a fail.

Some would harvest just for removal from the local gene pool. I don't know that I would want to be the world record holder for that convoluted mess.......

He spread those genes for several years....He only failed because of an "Apex predator" He was a mature buck....

I doubt his rack was "normal" any of his prior seasons.
In past leases I've been on we encouraged elimination of inferior bucks
Their trend is set by their second year, they will either show improvement or maintain inferior traits season after season.
Of course what is inferior in any given area based on bloodline, food availability and climate always must be taken into account. As a whole deer in SC are smaller and "inferior" due to over crowding and mismanagement to SW Tx, W Ks and Ohio, yet I have seen deer taken off of unmanaged SC range that would equal the best from anywhere.
