Pardon my ignorance, but are you referring to the Food Saver brand equipment wherby you vacuum pack almost anything under the sun?
If so, I have one and love it. But the standard one when it went on sale for $29 about two years ago. Fought against it for over a decade as I felt it was an unnecessary extra piece of equipment in my pantry. And they were expensive. I don't use it often but when I do it's fabulous.

Foodsaver brand but use ziploc bags. Cheaper and work well

Love my food saver. I use it when freezing meat as it keeps the meat much fresher in the freezer. I like it for a lot of other things also. If you find the one with the mason jar attachment it works well to vacuum seal things like dried beans.

When the good lord decided it was time to send me to my destination here on Earth, he decided I'd make a perfect Cajun. I don't always explain myself well, when I speak most of my words get cut short (shut up TW!), but I do think I have a great sense of humor. Yes I mean the vacuum sealer.

I was using the Ziplock brand with the manual pump for years and very happy for what I needed (preventing freezer burn). It seems that Ziplock has discontinued that line (can't find it anywhere) but have been using the food saver brand bags (1 qt and 1 gal) with the Ziplock pump and have had the same results as I did with the Ziplock vac bags.

I've owned 2 different models both Food Saver brand and neither one worked very long, and I always made sure they were clean. Just wouldn't seal, replace the gasket it would work maybe 3 months then crap out. I rarely used it, maybe 12 times a year.

I played with one a couple of years back, sealing ammo and other BOB items and it seamed to work at first, but over time lost vacuum. Sealed a small bag of 22 for a water proof test and tossed in the fish pond. A week later, full of water and ammo ruined. So not a major fan. Your mileage may vary.

I've used our Food Saver to seal ammo packs and they have remained sealed now for just over 10 years. With any such system, one has to be careful in minimizing sharp or pointy edges as you evacuate the air from the bag. I've had pretty good success by wrapping the contents with a layer or two of paper towels first, then sealing the bag. This can keep a bullet tip or box corner from puncturing the bag.

Hey CL I just figured it was something new that I might need. You can use the Food Saver as a 'seal a meal' in that I often take 2 bigger sheets, seal one end, put herbs in 2x2 locations and just seal them up so that the sheet may have 8 small compartments of small amounts of herbs - which I then freeze. Otherwise, finding those small packets of key herbs in December when the freezers are full of the fall harvest and meat purchases, is impossible. So you could actually seal a meal-- a small packet of corn next to mashed potatoes, seal it, then the meat/protein, seal it, then the dessert!
