I found a Gerber Para Frame 2 about 7-8 years ago.... It was not new when I found it but I used almost every day since then as a work knife to cut cardboard, plastic. rope and usually lunch. About 3 weeks ago the frame broke where the safety lock is engaged on it. I decided to send it off to Gerber and see what they would do... The knife was very loose in its frame and I had sharpened it so much that the serrated edge on the back halve was almost worn away because I never bothered to file it correctly lol It was obviously well used I received a brand new knife in the mail today. I know it is a "cheap" knife at 25 bucks but they stood by the warranty no questions asked and I thought that was a cool thing I would pass on

I still have the Tom Brown Tracker, the #2, 9.5" NOT 11.88", it is still sharp on both edges, the saw/teeth part is rounded off some, I use a pruning saw for that, have a gerber folding one in my kit now. I thought the tom brown would cut down on what i carry, but it didn't, I ended up with a hatchet and the pruner anyway. I used to like most of the gerbers, but not any more, my multi-tool is a gerber, but most of the kit knives I have are now mora's, they seem to hold their edge best. I carry both jute and para-cord, the jute is strong enough for most things and cheap enough, I can just leave it, where para-cord got costly. Don't get me wrong I bought 1000 foot roll of para-cord and still use it a lot, but I tend to gather it back, where I will leave the jute. I have a 5" ultra performance and an ultra, red/blue/2 white/strob head lite in my kits. I recently added 2 3" c-clamps and a 2 sq yard pack of cheesecloth to my kits, I updated my first-aid kits to a 5x7 pre-loaded bag. everything else is pretty much the same, firesteel/matches/bic. Just don't and "don't expect" to use them much any more. But still going to keep them up, go-bag/pack weights less than 25# and I have/keep 5 of them around. Still got a ruger 22/45 lite, a hi-point 9mm, a ruger 9mm revolver and a hydra multi barrel rifle 556/.22/7.62x39/308/9mm and lots of ammo stached, I still shoot/clean/change-out often' www.mgi-military.com/store/index.php?category=21I have not had any trouble with ammo not firing any gun damage/corrosion/anything, all of my staches for guns and ammo are buried in the ground and are in silicone treated gun socks in plastic, but I have guns in caches, underwater, in car trunks/boxes, dumps, underground, etc. I have only lost one gun when they bull-dozed a dump site. And maybe one I forgot where it was. My current method is a map with rally points/supplies/meds/caches/staches/etc all in an easy code, that's worked for years, my fear is that I forget the code (likely) or lose the map (not-likely) The "hydra" is the biggest expense, maybe 10k in the gun, barrels and lowers/mags, but all are expendables if it was required. I have removed some from time to time and may take the hydra to my grandson in KY, before to long, I have already taken him about 10 guns and all of my reloading stuff. I would rather he have them, then "forget" what I have or where it is.

Wow, I had never considered underwater. I guess I would be afraid that it would move or get buried in the silt.

Sirderrin, That's a cool story in my view! I still everyday carry my little Kabar folder that my wife gave me 35 years ago. Yes, I have and I carry larger knives, but that one is a constant like my wallet.
Woody, I'm only 68 but my whole approach to prepping has shifted to "hunker in place" because of my age. Yes, we can get out in a hurry if forced to, but that isn't likely at all. We are surrounded by like-minded people so I have invested huge efforts to build a support network with the surrounding farmers and ranchers. It is amazing what you can do along those lines because virtually everyone is smelling the fear now.
