Well I figure if you're living off grid this topic would fall under this category. Dave Canterbury put together a video making lye soap utilizing tallow from a deer and doing so is very simple. He talks you through the process step by step to make the soap and now I know exactly what to do to make it. Hopefully it never gets to the point where we have to make our own soap but knowing how to make it is added knowledge to be able to do so. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CLhaJjSZK0&feature=relmfu

Dink I'm so glad this took you back to fond memories you have of you and your grandma making lye soap together. Will, I learned something new too and thought I'd share it. Walter, I liked the simplicity of the step by step instructions of the video and that's why I decided to post it. Right you are OT about personal hygiene, especialy so if in the wilderness for a prolonged amount of time. Glad y'all enjoyed it as much as I did.

I wasnt planning to shower at all...I figured I blend in with the rest of the world.
All joking aside, I taken this would be used during a teotwawki situation, and it's a must learning this method. It can be another tool that you have to barter.
Thanks for sharing with all of us cajunlady.

Can't watch it now, but I'm really interested. I figured I'd just wash with just water, but this could come in great for cleaning cuts and such.
