I feel a little miffed on the timing because not long after I got it AIM Surplus got a haul of LE trade-ins for noticeably less (but it probably would've evened out between the mags, shipping, and FFL fees), but I adopted a Gen 3 G17 with three mags from Cabelas. This was a Father's Day treat for me and I took advantage of the sales going on (in addition to the gun I grabbed a bunch of clothes from the bargain cave averaging at 70% discount). Got a nice SERPA holster to go with it plus an 800-lumen light that fits on the rail.
It was interesting trying to take it apart all the way since the last time I did was during my armorer's course in 2013 (but I did succeed and got it back together once a little muscle memory kicked in). Now to find the time to take it to a range and see how it shoots.

I have a number of them, the only comment I'll make is to avoid gen 4 for future acquisitions. What is it you don't like on the gen4? Change in metallurgy, process, and configuration. Their best product was in the gen 2 going into 3. However, if you stick to +P and lower, the gen4 will work. |

well! it was a parts gun. The S&H cost me $15.00 but the gun was $5.00
whoever put it back together wrong bent the spring to make it fit in the wrong place. I got a spring kit for $7.00 and right away could see the problem and fixed it.
So I have 5+15+7= $27 in it, so you got the better deal

Another reason besides what he mentioned: if your logistical abilities are limited you're better off avoiding Gen 4 because G4 is compatible only with other G4 guns. Gens 1-3 gun parts are relatively OK to interchange depending on prior usage. This was something that was gone over in my armorer's course. |

Quite alot of gen 3 guns out there, new and unfired, if you feel a desire. Fairly cheap if one shops around. Mine were all 2s and 3s until I got a new 4th gen 19 about five years ago.I put a lot of after market stuff in and on it but works very well.

I have a 17 G3 and a 19 G4 with a lot of after market too
wish I had just waited for the p320 Sig' its about all I shoot or carry any more
guess I could just sell the glocks
naw!
I don't even know how many guns I actually have any more, but the good thing is neither does my Wife
But I still bet she has more shoes than I have guns (maybe)
