Traded some used batteries for a pristine Marlin 60. Standard tubular magazine, but 14 rounds because it's the newer, shorter 19" barrel instead of the old classic. A couple of years ago, a man bought it to teach his grandkids to shoot - but they have zero interest in shooting. He said that it is unfired and it looks like it - box, manual and all. I can't find a mark on it. He said that he recalls paying about $125 for it and it's been sitting in the back of a closet in the factory box. I left it at work, but I'll take some pictures and post them because it's just plain purdy The batteries were worth around $100 so I'm happy with the deal. Now I need to run LOTS of ammo through it find out what it likes best. Tough job but somebody has to do it.....

Now that's a good deal. Good for you. Just don't shoot any mesquite. You'll mess up the wood. Actually if you see any mesquite, mark it and if available I'll come get it. I'm dying for some more.

Nice score. I've had my Marlin 60 for close to 50 years now. Still shoots great. Probably the reason it is the best selling (or darn close to it) 22 rifle of all time.

My best friend growing up had 1960's Marlin 60 and a 336 that we shot like crazy kids with free ammo - because it was free. His Dad paid for it. I just had to get this rifle to keep my 10/22's company

Good reminder to get down to the ranch and see what's down. Just too much going on lately....... I love you work and understand how cool it would be.

Great score there marc!! I currently have one I bought used at a pawn shop. $90. Seems they want between $100-130 for them used. Hold their value fairly well. I actually shoot it more than anything else. Now I can't speak for yours, but mine digest anything I put in it. And accuracy wise Federal Lightnings group the best. It's got one of those $29.95 somebobies 3x9x38 scope and it works just fine.
I had several more but used them for trade bait recently....imho they're perfect cache guns. You put one of them and brick of ammo with it and you are well armed and not breaking the bank.
Have fun!
Jimmy

Score! I've got an old Glenfield 60 (marlin rebranded). Dad paid $20 for it if I recall. Might be older than I am? It was the first rifle I'd ever shot and learned how to shoot. With it's tiny, dim, fixed4 power scope, that little 22 and I wreaked havoc on the frogs, birds and a couple rabitts. Haven't shot it in years. Needs some new springs and a proper cleaning. My youngest boys turning turning 8 next week. Maybe it's time to get up and running?

Funny, that I am actually kind of excited about a $100 .22. I am a huge fan of my 10/22's, but I really like the classic lines of this rifle.
Now I have to decide whether to put a scope on it, or peep sights. I can still ring a silhouette target at 75 with my GP-100 because I just "point it" at the target and it lands there, but I just can't see 2"-3" circles at rifle type ranges now.
All of my other long guns already wear glasses - sucks to get old when 150 was easy with irons just a few years ago.....

Yes! I would trade this one for an old 22" Glenfield in a heartbeat! They are a true American classic.
Get 'er running smooth!

That's funny Marc I've got an old Ruger 10-22 as well. Yea, they really blocky in comparison. Man, 22s are great. Cheap to shoot, won't make you deaf or beat ya the tar out of you.
22s are underestimated in survival situations. For $200 gun and ammo. Could put food on the table for years. Can easily carry a thousand or two rounds in a bugout bag. My Grandpa, back in Arkansas...now gone...put a lot of venison in the freezer with a Winchester pump 22.

still got two of the older marlin 60's both shoot fine
still have a Remington nylon 66, it shoots fine too
picked up a 1906 (made in 1935) marlin model 22A pump, back in high school, shoots short, long or long rifle I just love the hammer and oct barrel guns. Actually had two of these when I went into the Marine Corps and my Step Father sold them while I was in boot camp. (Yeah! Sold almost 30 of MY guns when him and my Mom divorced) I managed to get one of them back a few years later. The action bar was bent because the person who had bought it was an idiot didn't know what was wrong, so I got it back for next to nothing. Took me about two years to get a replacement bar but it works fine. One of those little ones that feel like its for a kid, but I like the lever or pump guns with the hammers. Have some Henry's too.
Have some old pump hammer shotguns I like too
Sorry MARC got off track.

Oh heck no, Woody - that's not off track. We are all talking about cool little .22's!
I'm watching my pennies, otherwise I would have a Henry lever 22 and a Ruger American .22 bolt gun with the 22" barrel. Now you got me wondering of Jimmy ever found a deal on a Nylon 66 when he was looking for one awhile back.
