Yep, Mossberg saw a loophole in the rules and took their new design to the ATF last year. We all know that it is indeed a short barrelled shotgun. But it all boils down to the definitions of "pistol", "shotgun" and "Firearm." After considerable wrangling, ATF said that it was non NFA. I suspect that Remington waited to see if the ATF would change the wording, but the ATF confirmed their position in March. Strangely, it was still illegal in Texas until yesterday, because of the way that our definitions were written. The State of Texas tweaked our rules to add language saying that we would not be more restrictive than the Feds. www.mossberg.com/category/series/590-shockwave/Doesn't look comfortable to shoot with my normal 3" 00 or slugs, but I do want to try it with 2-3/4" bird shot first. Heck, who wouldn't want a "6 round sawed off 12ga" to play with?

There NO doubt about Rem 870 history of course, but the Mossberg 500 action has also long proven to be just as reliable. I love my beat up old Maverick 88's too. Since the Tac-14 costs about the same, so I would lean toward 6+1.......but I can't spend the money right now: palmettostatearmory.com/mossberg-590-shockwave-12ga-shotgun-50659.htmlI would like to hear your impressions after you have a chance to play with yours when they come in. Nothing wrong with the Mossberg brand, in truth didn't know there was a Mossberg variant. I'm partial to winchester 1300 defenders myself, but since they are not making such a weapon, I went with this one.
