Theodore Roosevelt, a life all men should study, wrote: All men who feel any power of joy in battle know what it is like when the wolf rises in the heart. He was right. There is a sentiment behind it...a joy. The French called it Joie de Guerre. But it is a sentiment that modern society is extremely uncomfortable with. Towards the bottom of the article. 'Get your mind right'. In the academy we were told to do just that. That we were to know in our hearts and minds that we were prepared to shoot before we ever set foot on the street. I was always amazed at police officers who bragged they never pulled their gun while on duty. I looked at them like they had two heads. While waiting for the academy to start I was assigned to records. I had a crusty old sgt that I sought advice from. One was off duty carry. So I started carrying before I ever went through the academy. I choose predator. Me and one other guy on my road may be the only two who think like that and I worry about him. lol.
