I have a pretty nice Marlin 336 30/30 (pre-external safety) in really nice condition without a scope. It is my backup deer rifle to my R.E.M. 700 BDL 30.06. I paid about $160 for that Marlin a few years back. My buddy has a really nice 870 that has a ton of tac mods to it like extended mag tube, 20" bbl, light, heat shield, side saddle, sling, and adjustable m-4 style stick. He wants to trade even. Prices on the 336 are all over the map online and given what I paid for it, seems like a good deal...or is it? What say you guys?  |

Disclaimer: I have never sold nor traded away a gun. (Gifted, yes)
A classic 336 is.... well, it is a classic.
IMHO it should be passed down to your son, not traded off for an 870.
But if you have the itch.....

Keep the marlin. There's a reason he wants it. Keep the marlin. Buy a used 870 and gear it how you like it. Keep the marlin.

Yep. Keep the Marlin. 870's can be had fairly cheap.
