Hated C Rations, would rather eat snakes, grubs, riceballs, etc. His is showing WWII while my experience was with vietnam era youtu.be/u29G1rrZ_TYaccessory pack and desserts pack, (PBJ always good) were worth carrying. The smokes in the acc pack were great for trade for duck/chicken/rice/eggs from natives. TP is good to have, sugar salt, matches and coffee. Although I never used much coffee until I got older. Just a side note. We got issued "speed/white crosses" if we needed to stay awake/alert. Of course it got abused sometimes, but I am only talking ForCon not general troops and we got it when on Presidential security. I admit to using it sometimes, but I didn't like how it effected my aim/accuracy. And I once had the ability to go to sleep in about 15 seconds and wake up within a few minutes of the duration I wanted to sleep 1/2 hour, 4 hours, etc. And wake up instantly alert. Of course anything that will make a turd is/was better than nothing.

Just the fact that ANY of the WWII rations could be eaten amazes me.

Get hungry enough you will eat most anything Imagine the logistics of feeding 1/2 a million men who are always on the move! Napoleons winter march from Russia comes to mind. Out of an original force of 615,000, only 110,000 frostbitten and half starved survivors stumbled back into France. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Minard.pngShoe leather soup, horses, each other
