So, years ago, when I was real low on the totem pole with me career and did not make the money that I make now, my wife and kids were about to go hungry one month. We have all been there and I had a Govt Model Mark 4 1911 that I did not want to sell for any reason, I thought, but, kids needed food. I sold the gun for the best price I could get, which was not good, fed the family and never looked back. I thought about that gun from time to time as it was, in my opinion, the best gun that I have ever owned. I have used firearms my entire career and still cannot find anything that compares. Yes, there are great handguns out there, bug it is apples to oranges. You cannot compare a good 1911 with other guns as they are in there own class. Well, last night my entire family sat down in the living room to play a Christmas game. How I grew up, I was thinking, oh s--t, here goes another stupid Christmas game. Well, I was surprised. Multiple layers deep in boxes and wrapping paper, passed from person to person that ended with me. In the package i ended up with was a beautiful letter praising me for being a great father and husband and always putting family first with one more box. A brand new Colt Combat Elite Gov't model 1911. After the choking up ended and tears wiped having to read the letter out loud to all, I was amazed and greatful for my wife and kids. Come to find out, they have been planning this for 5 years, still choked up and grateful. Family first, after God.

That’s outstanding and says so many good things about you and your family, the love you shared even in the midst of troubles. The sacrifice you made back then did not go unnoticed and all these many years later was remembered and returned. Five years planning? That’s dedication to make your retirement special. Should make the shooting even more special. Enjoy. And congratulations! On the family especially as well as the gun.

That's quite a return on investing in your family showing the kind of people your wife and kids are; never mind the fine firearm.

That's quite a return on investing in your family showing the kind of people your wife and kids are; never mind the fine firearm. I and very humbled that my wife and kids never took me for granted. We, as adults, sometimes have to be so involved with work and take care of what is needed for the well being of loved ones, but I have never forgotten where my bread was buttered. The kids remember things, like the time I drove 36 hours to watch a Friday night football game to turn around and go back to work as soon as It was over. They remember and always understood the reason I was gone so much. Their momma, my wife truly blessed me and is a tougher person than I could ever be. I have a t-shirt that says,"I asked God for strength and courage so He sent me my wife". Sorry, I am rambling, God bless. Watch your six.
