I am actually "distilling" the water we drink but filtering the water we use for everything else. The water from the well is sweet but when we changed out the pump about 6 months ago we put an in-line filter and a gray water system to re -use the gray water and mix it with the rain water collection system we filter then use.
As a saftey net I started "distilling" the water we drink, I think what comes from the well is fine but I wanted the system and I wanted the process to become routine. I can make 2 gallons of "distilled" water every 8 hours using less power than running the well pump for the same period, though I now run the pump with the sun for most of the pressure/holding tank.
Surging is still my problem with running the whole house off a solar charged generator, so we have two breaker boxes, so we can run electrnics etc from the electric company until I figure out the issues, I have completed a proof of concept to charge the batteries that charge/run the generator from a wind mill, so if I need to go off grid I can. I can run the electronics from a stored system and avoid the surge, I think I just need a larger generator for the system.
plus I am changing out lights and things so I will be able to run the house on 12 volt or 110 like an RV
