Saturday I will be taking a concealed carry training course. I don't have a pistol so I will be using my nephew's 9mm. That's all I know about the pistol. I have shot one many years ago.
I know not every trainer teaches the same but there should be common ground they all cover. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest finding someone to borrow from to practice before you show up.

Dang CL. Buy a box of target ammo and get down to NOLA and familiarize yourself with that pistol first (don’t worry, won’t be unusual to hear that many rounds in an hour.

I would strongly recommend at the VERY least getting the pistol and fully familiarizing yourself with its basic functionality even if you do not fire it at all..... .
A large frame 9 mm is relatively light on recoil - smaller pocket size ones can pack a strong recoil.. 50 rounds plus out of a small frame 9mm can be punishing on your hands if you are not familiar and comfortable shooting one and even then 50 rounds out of some small frame makes me hurt and I have a high tolerance...
You can easily pass the shooting portion of most CC test if you are capable of loading and handling the basic firearm in question. You stated that you knew nothing of the firearm in question... That is the part that would bother me - can you load and operate it comfortably that includes firing without serious pain to your hand for 50 plus rounds..... The rest is not a problem.

Thanks guys for the support and info. It so happens I fell sick from allergies and didn't get to practice at all. Cold turkey it is for what it'll be worth.

Inquiring minds want to know how things went? "Inquiring minds", two of my favorite words. LoL! Yesterday was the big day. From 8-3 we had classroom education. Three guys and me. Instructor is 6'8" tall and can definitely eat a bowl of soup on my head. He's an ex law enforcement supervisor and made the class so interesting we barely noticed how much time we spent in the classroom. Due to high wind conditions yesterday we didn't do any shooting so that is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I feel confidant I'll do okay but will let y'all know something. My thoughts are that everyone should go through this course whether you have any intentions of conceal carrying or not because a wide spectrum of safety is covered and can open your eyes to circumstances going on around you in today's crazy world to give you something to think about.

A requirement to sit through such a class is one of the few related laws I would agree with. Having said that, it would have to be within reason. When Tennessee first did it, the class was two days, expensive, and seemed to be designed to discourage CC. These days TN has some of the better laws on the books. Hopefully none of us here will ever need it, but still better to have than not.
