In my new job at the hospital I scan charts from the previous nights patients in the ER. I’m amazed at the number of people that are allergic to iodine. A simple thing such as that and yet apparently harmful to so many. Latex? Yeah that too but the iodine allergies threw me. Do you know what you’re allergic to? If you can’t speak for yourself does your family members know?

Shellfish and BS are my allergens. The former isn't an extreme case, but the latter gets worse with age.

you name it, I am allergic to it. mold, mildew, cats, dogs, oris root (ingredient in all perfume), tobacco smoke, also chlorine (so can't swim in a pool). All give me sinus infections.

There are allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities. Mine include penicillin, sulfa, augmentin, codeine, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, xylitol (and all the other "alcohol sugars"), insect stings, alcohol (topical, as in hand sanitizer or what's smeared on prior to getting a shot), pepper (capsaicin as well as any other form of "edible heat"), scented/perfumed "anything" (including deodorant/antiperspirant, any soap or detergent, dryer sheets, and most cleaning products), and smoke generated by cigarettes/cigars/pipes as well as that which is exhaled from humans. Hives that last for weeks, vomiting, diarrhea that lasts for days despite taking loperamide to counteract it, bloating, major mucus secretion, major coughing, sore throat, and burning mouth are some of the results of ignoring the list of things to avoid, and the list is still incomplete. I cannot go near the "laundry aisle" in the supermarket and am finding that the adjacent aisles, no matter what they hold, are still too strongly scented for me. Years ago, I was tested for mold, dust, etc. and am supposedly allergic to those as well. On humid days, when I get up in the morning, I often go through 20 or so tissues. Eating anything at all sends me to the tissue box. Weird, huh?

As I've aged I've developed allergies I didn't have before. My worse concerning allergy is anesthesia. For my last five surgeries the side effects were different. I just make extra sure everyone present during surgery is well-aware of my dilemma so they'll monitor me closely before and after.
