Did the first part of our annual rifle qualification today. Seven points shy from a perfect score, and the only areas that weren't perfect were kneeling and standing. 200 yard sitting slow and rapid fire, 300 yard slow and rapid fire (sitting/prone), and 500 yards slow fire (prone) were all perfect.
All the band Marines got Expert rating today. Lowest score was 224 between the six of us, and I got the highest. I don't know if I got the best score for this range session overall, but it was definitely up there.

Table 2 completed. 99 out of 100 bringing my total shooting score to a 342 out of a possible 350. Fourth-award Rifle Expert, and I also gave Expert badges/subsequent awards to the other Marines in my section as we all shot Expert today. For two it's their first Rifle Expert, another his 2nd, and for another his 3rd. With a score like that I could look into another avenue to possibly make me competitive for promotion and reenlistment: becoming a shooting coach, and/or joining the Marine Corps Shooting Team (the latter would require me to really work on my standing).

I've seen some Marines shooting at Camp Perry. Some of them looked like they could 'will' the bullet on to target. Better get a lot of practice in before you step out on that one, you've got some seriously stiff competition there.

I've seen shooting like that at the Far East Div. Shooting Match in 2009. Smaller targets and with iron sights. There's a reason the scout sniper talent scouts go to such events.

I don't know how much you shoot but, I am guessing not nearly enough... With a steady diet of lead slinging I bet you could compete...

When my coach asked us in his section what we all did for fun I openly admitted that with three kids I don't really get time to myself.

I read somewhere, that Marines, even when not required, shoot about 10x more than any other branch.
I shot "expert" with the rifle and pistol, and I had access to the range and to ammunition, so I did a lot of practice, practice, practice.
It was once brought to my attention, and not in a negative way, that I had shot 10,000 rounds, I wish I had the money to shoot that much now. I am lucky if I shoot 500 rounds a month, even less this past few years, due to failing eyesight and hand sensation, as I get older. I miss it and at the same time know it's one of the many things that are "over" for me.
