m.soundcloud.com/michael-maschmeier/a1-amazing-grace-brass-quintet-arr-by-aaron-atwoodI came up with this last year for a memorial service my brass quintet was asked to perform at, and Amazing Grace was specifically requested. We had I think three other arrangements available, but we didn't like them after trying them out (the other arrangements had too much of a feel that they were attempts at reinventing the song). I decided to come up with an arrangement that same day, and the following day we tried it out. It took only one to two run-throughs for the quintet to unanimously decide to use my arrangement. Not too long after I found out a former colleague from New Orleans was getting into publishing music after he retired from active duty, so I decided to go and use the opportunity to publish this arrangement. Right now besides being published it is a choice piece for both brass quintets in my current band to use as both something for commitments as well as a good rehearsal tool to collaborate with each other.
