We put google eyed goldfish in the water run-off barrels and even the cisterns they overflow into, to keep the skitter's away, just get them at the bait shop in April or May and they last til Oct around here. I'm gonna filter and boil the water anyway, so a little fish don't hurt it any.
It was 33 degrees when I got up, and I got up after daylite, which is late for me and it was chilly in the house so I looked at the thermometer outside and it was 33, then I looked in the closest rain barrel to see if there was any ice and the gold fish were floating. (no ice) The Weather Station says it got down to 35 but it was 33 here and I suspect it was colder than that around 3 AM.
We use the fish to keep the skeeters out but also to tell us when to heat wrap the waterlines at the well.
I suspect it's time. We have a good week of warmer weather on the way, and I think we are a month from our first freeze forecast so we have time. The well is deep and never has froze, but the water lines at the pump and from the pump to the house and in the back yard from the house have and that sucks. We have a water faucet in the front that needs fixed (water shut-off to it) so it is a good time to just do it.

So during my first walk today, I walk at least a couple of times a day because it lowers my blood sugar, but any way I found deer tracks.
Now I know that's not big news to many of you, but I have not seen a deer track in our front drive for a very, very long time, not since they clear cut a section of woods about a 1/4 mile away.
I figure it changed the deer's travel pattern and they were gone from the front of the property, there were deer still using the bottom and at the back of my property at the top of the hill, but not in the front of my son's house were I stay and used to see them often.
But today there were at least 3, probably a Doe and 2 fawns, a male and a female from the tracks and they crossed the entire front yard.
It gives me hope I will see them in the front again.
I see them from both back decks, but I have the property at the top of the hill as a bed and breakfast now, so I rarely go up there any more.

Hey Woodyz it's time to bring out the long johns for those snappy mornings. We're also having cooler temps only not as low as yours. I'm definitely okay with our temps. I like your natural mosquito control goldfishes. Whatever works I say.

Found even newer deer tracks in the front drive yesterday, could be the same deer, but they were new tracks, so they are back to traveling through here, which is a good thing.

Woodyz something new to watch besides bird watching. LoL! Happy for you that the heard is coming to your old stomping ground. Feed them some corn to keep them close by to enjoy them more.
