We have a suet feeder like the one in the picture, but today was the first time I have ever seen a mourning dove using it, we have a lot of smaller blue headed birds, some yellow chested birds, even a male and female cardinal I have seen at it, but this was the first dove.
We keep a bird feeder, with wild bird seed close to it but the dove was on the suet feeder and eating from it.
It was alone too, which was unusual, as I see them in pairs or flocks/groups, but not alone.
Does anyone else put out the suet cakes? We went through a case of the cakes, 10 cakes, this winter and a couple, last month. Went through a 20# sack of wild bird feed too.
But that's OK it keeps them around and they don't waste it.
We have humming bird feeders front and back and both of them were used all last winter by different birds, different makings, they are still using them, but not sure it is the same ones.
Earlier in the year we had males and females in the back, sometimes even under the roof on the deck. They are very nosy and noisy, they make a lot more then just wing noise, they were making chirps, squeaks, whistles and buzzes and would hover right in front of me like they were trying to communicate.
We didn't have much of a winter, I think some just stayed here. Don't they migrate back North? We have a young female that I have seen for months, still comes to the front one.
I hope those that went South/North come back through here again, we'll keep the feeders full.
